Endress+Hauser Prosonic FMU30: Choose the Sensor Size Before Comparing the Price
For urgent replacement or project sourcing, quote the complete reference: FMU30 FMU30-AAHEAAGGF. The family name alone cannot confirm the process connection, approval, output or suitability for the actual echo conditions.

Supply-chain alert: a familiar family name can still produce the wrong replacement
A quotation that confirms only the model family leaves the installation team to resolve sensor size, thread compatibility and documentation during the shutdown. For a water or wastewater tank, that handover gap can turn a quick replacement into extra commissioning work. For FMU30 sourcing, settle these questions before dispatch: sensor size, G/NPT thread and seal material, hazardous-area approval, power and analogue output, process medium, mounting geometry, and the actual measuring distance. Send the full code FMU30-AAHEAAGGF together with application data at the first enquiry so commercial availability and technical fit can be checked in parallel.
FMU30 sourcing: two sensor sizes with a mechanical interface to verify
The Endress+Hauser Prosonic FMU30 is a two-wire ultrasonic transmitter for non-contact level measurement. It is used in sewage treatment, process-water vessels, loading systems, storage tanks and buffer tanks. Its 4–20 mA output supports conventional analogue loops; specify the required interface explicitly when replacing another transmitter.
| Measuring principle | Ultrasonic, continuous non-contact level and flow measurement |
| Maximum distance | 1½-inch sensor: liquids 5 m, solids 2 m; 2-inch sensor: liquids 8 m, solids 3.5 m |
| Blocking distance | 1½-inch sensor: 0.25 m; 2-inch sensor: 0.35 m |
| Accuracy | ±3 mm or ±0.2% of the set measuring range |
| Process temperature | -20°C to +60°C (-4°F to +140°F) |
| Process pressure | 0.7 to 3 bar absolute (10 to 44 psi) |
| Connection / wetted part | G/NPT 1½ or 2 inch thread; PP/EPDM sensor |
| Communication | 4–20 mA; compact two-wire configuration |
The real engineering question: will the echo remain usable?
FMU30 has two sensor sizes with different liquid ranges, solid ranges and blind zones. A quote based only on the largest family range can hide a mismatch. Confirm the configured sensor, thread and usable measuring span before ordering. Foam, strong surface turbulence, heavy dust, filling curtains, vapour, temperature gradients, vessel internals and poor nozzle position can weaken or multiply echoes. The actual usable range therefore depends on the measuring conditions. This is why an honest quotation should begin with the medium and geometry rather than only the words “0–8 metres.”
The blocking distance is 0.25 m for the 1½-inch sensor and 0.35 m for the 2-inch sensor. Product must not enter this near-sensor zone at maximum level. A replacement mounted too low may be commercially correct yet operationally unsuitable.
Diagnostics that shorten commissioning
The on-site display can show the envelope curve for echo diagnosis, while menu-guided operation supports commissioning. Integrated temperature measurement compensates for changes in the speed of sound, while the four-line display and envelope curve help with on-site echo diagnostics.

FMU30 buying questions
What is the maximum range of an E+H FMU30?
The published maximum is 5 m for liquids and 2 m for solids with the 1½-inch sensor, or 8 m for liquids and 3.5 m for solids with the 2-inch sensor. Real performance depends on surface and installation conditions, so the application should be reviewed before treating that number as a guaranteed working range.
Can FMU30 measure without touching the product?
Yes. Ultrasonic pulses measure distance to the surface without a probe in the medium. Check foam, turbulence, vapour and the sensor’s blocking distance when evaluating the installation.
What information is needed for an FMU30 quotation?
Provide the complete order code, medium, measuring distance, nozzle and tank geometry, temperature, pressure, approvals, quantity and delivery destination. For this enquiry, use FMU30 FMU30-AAHEAAGGF.
